Salon Reunion Tells of Saved Lives

Over the next few months, Biking for Babies will highlight our pregnancy resource center partners. If you are in close proximity to a center, we invite you to volunteer your time or gifts, to join them on the front line of the pro-life movement, to save lives. If you know someone who could benefit from the resources and support of this center, forward this blog post to them. God bless!

Northlake Crisis Pregnancy Center in Covington, LA, serves families in southern Louisiana and Mississippi. They provide resources such as medical services, counseling services, educational programs, and long-term material assistance for the first two years of the child’s life. Executive Director Rachel shared this story:

01-13-things-your-hairstylist-wont-tell-you-hard-to-work-withA few weeks ago, I decided to try a new place for a haircut. I needed something fast, so I picked a place that was convenient and told them that they could put me with whatever hairdresser was available at my requested time. When the hairdresser walked up to greet me I thought that she looked familiar, but I could not seem to place her. I thought I saw a look of recognition in her eyes as well, but she did not mention anything. As I sat down at her station, I immediately noticed her family photos. The pictures were all of a beautiful girl who seemed to be around ten years old.

I began to study the face of my new hairdresser and suddenly realized who she was! She was Jenny, a former client of the pregnancy center who had come to us ten years ago as a pregnant teenager! Jenny was a very shy and timid teen with a kind and sensitive heart. She came faithfully to all of her appointments and we developed a very close relationship. Jenny was particularly special to me because we were actually pregnant together. My oldest daughter is the same age as Jenny’s, and I distinctly remember trading pregnancy and new mom stories with her when she would come in for her appointments.

Because our program ends when the baby turns two, it had been eight years since I had last seen Jenny. She had grown into a beautiful woman, and her baby girl into a beautiful young lady. She must have seen the look on my face as I made the connection because she sheepishly asked if I remembered her. I immediately said YES and jumped up to give her a hug! She told me that in addition to being a hairdresser she was in school and working towards her degree. She has a dream to one day be an advocate for abused children.

Jenny’s entire face lit up with pride when she began to share about how amazing her daughter is doing, and what a blessing she has been in her life. I had to fight back tears as I thought about how different this encounter would have been if Jenny had not chosen life for her baby, and I am eternally grateful to the Lord that I had the privilege of being a part of that decision. As supporters of this ministry you had a hand in that decision as well, so I pray that this story blesses you in the same way that is has blessed me. Thank you for enabling us to do God’s work in this community.
