Sacrifice and Solidarity, That’s the Way to Go!

Hello, I am new to the team this year. My name is Lazaro, and I am excited to join the Biking for Babies team for the 2013 ride. There are a few new riders, and I suggest you check them out at http://www.bikingforbabies.com/meet-the-team/bikers/ and keep them, as they train, in your prayers! If we don’t have God’s help in our riding/training, then there wouldn’t be much point to Biking for Babies. At the same time, I want you to pray especially for the babies and their mothers. After all, we are biking for them.

I believe Biking for Babies is all about prayer and sacrifice. Part of our sacrifice is the training we do before the ride. Since I have relatively no experience with cycling, I have been training mostly by running and weight lifting. Otherwise, I am spending time just getting used to being on a bike. For instance, instead of taking the bus around the University of Illinois (UIUC) campus, I have been biking. This has been a great sacrifice for me as well as a time to offer up prayer through my suffering (it’s still cold). I also have to suffer through using my old rusty and squeaky mountain bike.

Anyways, I want to encourage you to join me in prayer and sacrifice. Particularly, in this season before we celebrate the Resurrection, let us unite our suffering with that of Christ on the Cross. By our sacrifice in biking, we realize that we are asking you to make a sacrifice with us, whether by monetary contribution or prayer. Ultimately, God is calling each of us to make a sacrifice; be sure to discern how he is calling you to support us. We’re all in this together!

We will be doing some group rides in the Urbana-Champaign area. I’m hoping that I will get to know the other riders better and increase my overall understanding of the Biking for Babies mission.

I wish you peace!
