Blessings in this Holy Time of Year

written 4/17/2025, by Sarah W.

This is easily my favorite time of year.

At my church, we have the most beautiful and reverent liturgies, with song selections (one of my favorite ways to pray) meant to lift the heart.

We’re surrounded by visible expressions of Christ’s sacrifice like feet washing and observing holy silence for hours in a space meant to draw you back to his side in the Garden of Gethsemane.

And then, when in the story of Scripture it seems as all hope is lost because Christ has died and is buried deep within the tomb, we celebrate his Resurrection by welcoming dozens of people who have come to know Jesus Christ into our church community through the highest liturgy of the year.

In this liturgy, we begin in darkness, with only handheld candles to light the church. And at a high point in the celebration, all of the lights are flipped on, bells are rung, the faithful sing Gloria (which we buried in somber preparation 40 days ago), and all know that Jesus has conquered death and has gloriously resurrected!

It really is beautiful, and I hope that your church celebrates Easter big like we do.

This renewal and resurrection of life in Christ is the heart of the Gospel of life.

As it says in John Paul II’s Evangelium Vitae (“The Gospel of Life), “Jesus is the Son who from all eternity receives life from the Father (cf. Jn 5:26), and who has come among men to make them sharers in this gift: “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly” (Jn 10:10).”

May you experience the risen Lord in his glory, in his abundance, in his goodness this Easter so that you may spread his love and his life with others.
