Virtue, or the “habitual and firm disposition to do the good”, is such a crucial part of being human. Our society has forgotten the value of virtue, yet it’s transformative for the individual and society as a whole.
Dr. Andrew Abela, who gave a talk at NAPA Institute’s Summer Conference that Chris attended in July, wrote a book about the virtues, which he calls “Superhabits: The Universal System for a Successful Life.”
✍️ For example, if you want to grow in the super habit of gratitude, a simple practice is to write down one thing you’re grateful for each day.
✍️ Or, to grow in the super habit of humility, anytime you’re about to make a decision, write a list of the things you DON’T KNOW about the decision you’re trying to make.
So here are three tips to grow in super habits:
Identify a recurring moment in your daily life that seems to induce stress, anxiety, heightened emotion, or temporary gratification, and start there.
What is one virtuous action that you can focus on each day in those moments which, when done habitually, will foster ease, joy, and strength?
Attaining virtue requires not a herculean effort but, rather, steady daily practice, so visually show yourself when you hit or miss the mark as encouragement.
If you were to work on growing in one superhabit/virtue, what would it be? We’re rooting and praying for you as you grow in virtue, because virtuous lives benefit all of us!
