2B Choices for Women is a pregnancy resource center in Mobile, AL and serves local communities in Southern Alabama and the Florida panhandle. Kelsi, Program Manager for 2B, shares about the center:
The mission of 2B Choices for Women is to offer clients a holistic, pro-life experience aimed at promoting healthy pregnancies, healthy babies, and healthy families. We offer free pregnancy tests, accurate information on abortion and all of client’s pregnancy options, Earn While You Learn prenatal and parenting classes, and free car seat safety checks by our certified staff.
We recently had a client in the center for a pregnancy test. The test was positive, and she requested information on abortion. She is a single mother of a three-year-old and enrolled in school full time. She was not sure how she would add another baby to the mix. She had extreme feelings of guilt about becoming pregnant again without being married, and was concerned about having to tell her family. We spent over an hour with this young woman, and offered her a number of resources including: a referral to a doctor for an ultrasound, information on abortion, information on adoption, and a resource at her university that helps pregnant students. About a week later, the client called to come back in to the center. She informed us that she had spoken to her boyfriend and her family, and decided that she wanted to parent her baby! She is now currently enrolled in our Earn While You Learn program and is still working toward her degree in Early Childhood Education. I sincerely believe that taking the time to speak with her, to determine what her goals in life were, and have an open, honest discussion about her fears led her to ultimately choose life for her baby.
We believe that only through compassion and providing a safe, non-judgmental environment can we effectively reach clients that may be considering an abortion. However, promoting life means so much more than simply advocating against abortion. Being pro-life means offering support throughout the client’s pregnancy and beyond into early toddlerhood, promoting safe sleep practices, encouraging breastfeeding, promoting car seat safety, and providing access to other resources such as counseling and our on-site food pantry.
