Nikki’s Story: A new face for Biking for Babies

Nikki Biese has accepted Biking for Babies’ offer to lead our organization as Executive Director, our first ever paid staff position. Please enjoy her letter to our Biking for Babies family, as we warmly welcome her leadership to our organization!

Dear World,

Kevin and Nikki Biese
Kevin and Nikki Biese. This year, Nikki has accepted our offer to lead Biking for Babies as Executive Director.

My involvement with Biking for Babies has varied across the past seven years. I went on the national ride as a support crew member and was a prayer warrior for years for my husband, Kevin, as he rode mile after mile. This worked for us; Kevin and I would fundraise together, and I would be the support at home with the kiddos. For years I listened in the background as Kevin would participate in his executive team video calls. However, as Biking for Babies began discussing the 2018 ride, I was mad that I was not more involved, and it did not seem right. I rarely get mad, but I was seriously hurt that I was still on the outskirts when I felt the pull for more. What was I waiting for? This sparked my role as the Director of Route Leaders, a role that helped me use some of my God-given gifts to help form our lead missionaries on each of our four routes. It felt perfect for me, but little did I know that God had a different idea.

At times, this past year felt like it had more valleys than peaks, and our executive team was unsure of God’s plan. We each had moments of despair that something else was going to go wrong with planning, our missionaries, or fundraising. As the 2018 national ride commenced, we held our breath as we waited to see what heights B4B would reach. It was another beautifully crazy year, with 24 missionaries completing the ride and multiple lives touched and saved along the way. It was a year that made us question who we were and what God wanted us to achieve.

The Biese Family.
The Biese Family.

After the ride was over, our executive team discussed the future of our mission. God placed it on Kevin’s heart to ask me to be the full-time Executive Director of B4B. It took me by surprise but was something my heart longed to do. It just made sense for so many reasons, especially for our Acting Executive Director, Sarah. After discussions with the executive team, we agreed to let God lead our path. It was decided: I would leave my amazing career with Target to serve Biking for Babies in this new capacity. We dove headfirst into the Sustainability Campaign that the executive team had been developing for the past few years.

And here we are, ready to tell the world this news.

I reflect on this past year, and I laugh at how our plans are always overruled by God’s. Even more hilarious is that I never stop planning, and neither does He. The path that God is leading me, my family, and Biking for Babies down is clearer now more than ever. He wants our mission to be bigger and louder. He’s bringing us places we have never been before, showing us avenues to increase our impact at exponential rates. In the business of saving lives, we are never satisfied with our results because every soul counts.

I’m willing to bet that we aren’t that different, you and me. I’ve always wanted to help people, as cliché as it sounds, and most people do. We probably share the same fears that many have: fears about failure, worthlessness, and rejection. I want to be an example for my children of someone who is willing to stand against a culture of indifference, selfishness, and false loves. As people, we long to love and be loved. Then hear me now: your heavenly Father loves you very much. And He’s calling you to Him. What are you waiting for?
