*This story was shared in a “2025 Summer Update” from our partnered center, Guiding Star Wakota.
Seventeen year old Ava sat quietly in our waiting room, carrying more than the weight of a pregnancy.
Sh wanted to keep her baby, she said from the start.
But her world didn’t echo that desire. Her boyfriend. Even her own mothers.
All were urging her to end the pregnancy.
When she returned for an ultrasound a few days later, she brought her boyfriend and his mom. They watched silently as a heartbeat flickered on the screen. Ava began to cry.
“I’ve decided to have an abortion,” she whispered. Not boldly. Not freely. Just heavily, like the words didn’t even belong to her.
Our ultrasound printer wasn’t working that day, so we invited her to come back for the images. And when she returned, something had changed.
She told her boyfriend she was going to keep the baby, with or without his support.
She remembered what one of our client advocates had quietly told her: “Pray. Process. And remember, God chose you to mother this baby.”
It stuck. It gave her pauce. And it gave her strength.
“The moment I left, I felt to horrible for wanting t oabort my baby,” she said. “Between watching the ultrasound and remembering what you said…I won’t forget it.”
Ava still faces pressure. Her mom still disagrees. But Ava is standing her ground. And she’s not alone.
Because of your generosity, she had a safe place to land. A sacred moment to breathe. And the quiet courage to choose life.
Genuinely, it IS because of your support of Biking for Babies and our mission to renew the culture of life through young adult formation and support of pregnancy resource centers that stories like Ava’s exist.
For that, we are so so grateful for your continued support of Biking for Babies.
