Mary Bookwalter

Hello, my name is Mary Bookwalter and I am overjoyed to be returning to Biking for Babies this summer as a second year missionary! Last summer as a rider, I learned very tangibly how to unite sacrifice and suffering with prayer and love of others. This year I will be part of the support crew and look forward to what God will teach me through the experience.

Born in raised in Northern VA, just outside of D.C., I had the opportunity to attend the March for Life nearly every year. I always loved how the March is a very real testament to the value of life and shows the importance of standing up for those most vulnerable. Growing up in my community, I often had access to some type of volunteer activity to further the culture of life. After graduating college however, I felt like I didn’t quite have the same opportunities. I first learned of this life changing mission in 2022 from Fr. Ed Guilloux. After serious prayer and consideration I jumped in and am now so excited to be involved again this year!

I currently work as a Nanny and have worked with children more than any other type of job. I love working with kids and find so much joy in the everyday life with them. There are daily lessons when we are young, and when we are 25 years old haha I find myself learning about my relationship with God when I work with children. Through working with little people I know that there are a lot of things necessary to fill their needs. Parents everywhere know how expensive it can be to have and raise a child. The idea of a mother being unable to properly care for her child is absolutely heart breaking to me. I have asked myself “why do I want this” and I just keep coming back to the real mothers who will be able to better care for themselves and their children.
