Bishop William Joensen

Bishop William M. Joensen, Ph.D., is the 10th bishop of Des Moines, ordained and installed on September 27, 2019.  A native Iowan and former priest of the Archdiocese of Dubuque ordained in 1989, Bp. Joensen has served in parish and teaching ministries for much of his priesthood, including his roles at Loras College, Dubuque, Iowa, where he was a member of the philosophy faculty, spiritual director of the St. Pius X seminary program, academic division chair, and dean of campus spiritual life advancing Catholic identity and mission in his years at Loras 2001-18.  He has served on several archdiocesan and regional institutional bioethics committees, hospice board, and has been a longtime contributor to various Magnificat publications.  An avid cyclist and pro-life proponent, the relationship with Biking 4 Babies was a natural and passionate fit for Bp. Joensen, who is pleased to help build up the culture of life in this capacity.
